Privacy Policy

eReader for iPhone, iPad and Mac · Last updated:

This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you use the eReader app for iPhone, iPad and Mac (the “App”) and this website (the “Site”), who processes it, and what choices you have. The App is developed and published by Sina Alparslan, an independent developer (“we”, “us”, “our”), who is the data controller for the processing described here.

The short version: there is no account. Your books, highlights, notes and bookmarks are stored on your device and, if you turn on sync, in your own iCloud. We cannot see them. With your agreement where the law requires it, the App sends anonymous usage statistics and crash reports to Google Firebase, and the free version shows ads from Google AdMob. Book titles, file names, the text of your books and what you search for are never collected.

1. What we do not collect

2. Information that stays on your device

The following is created and stored locally by the App and is not sent to us:

Deleting a book in the App deletes its reading data. Deleting the App deletes everything it stored on that device.

3. iCloud sync (optional, Premium)

If you subscribe to Premium and are signed in to iCloud, the App stores your book files and reading data (position, highlights, bookmarks, notes, reading setup) in your own iCloud account so they appear on your other devices. This data is held by Apple under your Apple Account and Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to it. You can remove it at any time in Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage › eReader.

4. Usage analytics and diagnostics

Your choice comes first. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, usage statistics, crash reports and performance data are switched off until you agree: the App asks once, and sends nothing of this kind if you decline. Everywhere else they are on by default. In every country you can turn them on or off at any time in the App under Settings › Privacy › Share Usage Statistics. The region is taken from your device's region setting; no location lookup is made.

When this is switched on, the App uses the following services provided by Google LLC / Google Ireland Limited to understand which features are used and to find and fix faults:

These services automatically process technical data including an app-instance identifier, an installation identifier, the identifier for vendor (IDFV), device model, operating system and app version, language, country or region derived from your IP address, and coarse usage attributes (for example whether Premium is active, an approximate number of books, the selected theme, or a streak range). IP addresses are used by Google to derive general location and are not stored in the analytics reports we see. We do not combine this data with your name or contact details, and we do not have those.

Google's handling of this data is described at firebase.google.com/support/privacy and policies.google.com/privacy.

5. Advertising (free version only)

The free version of the App shows advertisements provided by Google AdMob. Ads are not shown to Premium subscribers. To deliver, limit and measure ads and to prevent fraud, AdMob and its advertising partners may process your IP address, device and system information, a general (non-precise) location derived from your IP address, ad interactions, and, only if you allow tracking, your device's advertising identifier (IDFA).

How Google uses information from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can manage Google ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.

6. Purchases

Premium subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple through the App Store. Apple tells the App whether a subscription is active; we do not receive your name, Apple Account, payment method or billing address. Apple's processing is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

7. Sharing features you choose to use

When you share a quote or a book file, the App hands the content you selected to the system share sheet, or to Instagram if you choose “Share to Instagram Stories”. What happens next is governed by the app or service you share to. Nothing is shared unless you start it.

8. This website and support requests

The Site is hosted on Google Firebase Hosting, which processes your IP address and browser details in server logs to deliver pages and protect the service. The Site sets no advertising or analytics cookies.

If you send a message through the Support page, the name, email address and message you enter are delivered to us by the form provider FormSubmit and are used only to answer you. Please do not include sensitive information. We keep support correspondence for as long as needed to resolve your request and for a reasonable period afterwards.

10. Who receives data

We do not sell your personal information for money. Data is processed by these providers, each under its own terms:

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a transfer of the App to a new owner, who would remain bound by this policy.

11. International transfers

The providers above operate globally, so data may be processed in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, transfers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the EU–U.S., UK and Swiss–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, or other mechanisms recognised by applicable law.

12. How long data is kept

13. Your choices

14. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to be informed about, access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, to receive it in a portable form, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a data-protection authority. To exercise a right, contact us through the Support page.

Because the App has no account and we do not hold your name or email, we usually cannot link analytics or advertising data to a particular person. Most data about your reading exists only on your device or in your iCloud, where you control it directly. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland

You have the rights set out in the GDPR, the UK GDPR and the Swiss FADP, including the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

United States (California and other states)

In the last 12 months the App has processed these categories of personal information: identifiers (device and installation identifiers, IP address), internet or other electronic activity (interaction with the App and with ads), and approximate geolocation derived from IP address. They are collected for the purposes described in section 9. We do not sell personal information for money and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. Allowing tracking for advertising may be a “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law; you can opt out at any time by declining or turning off tracking as described in section 13. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information. You may have the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. An authorised agent may make a request on your behalf.

Türkiye

Under Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KVKK) you have the rights listed in Article 11, including to learn whether your data is processed, to request information, correction or deletion, and to object. Data may be transferred abroad to the providers named in section 10 on the bases permitted by the law.

Brazil

Under the LGPD you have the rights in Article 18, including confirmation of processing, access, correction, anonymisation, deletion, portability and information about sharing.

Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea and other regions

You may have rights to access and correct your personal information and to complain to your privacy regulator. We will respond to requests as required by the law that applies to you.

15. Children

The App is a general-audience book reader and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the age at which consent is required in your country (up to 16 in parts of Europe). If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps. Parents can restrict ad tracking for a child's device in Settings › Screen Time and Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.

16. Security

Data on your device is protected by the security features of your device and operating system, including its encryption and your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID. Data sent to our providers is encrypted in transit. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

17. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the App or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will give notice in the App or on this Site. Continuing to use the App after a change takes effect means the updated policy applies.
